Speaker List:

Laurie Bates-Frymel, Senior Planner (Environment) with Metro Vancouver to present on “Planning for a Regional Natural Infrastructure Network”. The presentation will delve into the collaborative work to identify and plan for a Regional Natural Infrastructure Network across Metro Vancouver. Her presentation will also highlight upcoming initiatives that will explore innovative tools and deliver implementation guidelines to strengthen ecosystem connectivity — helping to realize a biodiverse and resilient region.

Jane Lakes, Native Bee Society of BC Board Member, OSU Master Melittologist, Beekeeper, to present on “The Native Bee Society of BC and the BC Bee Atlas“. The presentation will outline the work of the Native Bee Society of BC, a volunteer-run non-profit organization whose mission is to lead collaborative, community- and science-based actions that support native bees and other wild pollinators through art, education, and research. It will also delve into the NBSBC’s most ambitious project yet, the BC Bee Atlas. The BC Bee Atlas is a citizen-science led project that seeks to record the times and places that native bee species have been seen throughout the province, as well as the plants they have been feeding on. With this information, we hope to better understand and protect BC’s native bee species.

Steve Clegg, Land Stewardship Manager with the S.A.Y. Lands Office (the land management office for the Sq’ewqéyl (Skowkale), Áthelets (Aitchelitz), and Yeqwyeqwí:ws (Yakweakwioose) First Nations in Chilliwack), to be discussing their land stewardship initiatives. Details to be added shortly.

Andrea Tanaka, Habitat Planner with the Canadian Wildlife Service/Environment and Climate Change Canada, to be providing updates on CWS/ECCC initiatives.

Lisa Dreves, Stewardship Programs Coordinator with the Langley Environmental Partners Society (LEPS), will provide a brief summary on the stewardship activities occurring in the Township of Langley.
